Volunteer Creative Director

The nonprofit news organization WhoWhatWhy is looking for a volunteer Creative Director. Our creative department currently has one designer and needs to grow. We would like someone to help us design an optimal department, implement creative department best practices, and manage the department.

A nonprofit that accepts no advertising, WhoWhatWhy is staffed largely with skilled volunteers dedicated to elevating public awareness and fostering a more vigorous democracy.  

Expectations

You will work remotely and on your own schedule, though we require a minimum commitment of 5-8 hours a week.  Because our staff is spread throughout the world, we communicate mostly through email.  All staff are required to respond to emails on a daily basis.  If you possess a high level of self-motivation, work well independently, strive for excellence, and can commit quality time per week on a regular basis to help achieve team goals, we’d like to hear from you.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure our priorities are supported inside and outside the organization
  • Oversee multiple projects through all stages, from concept through to production.
  • Collaborate with various project managers, department heads and senior management.
  • Translate marketing objectives into clear creative strategies
  • Lead the in-house development of creative assets to build a connected, branded ‘signature’

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in a Creative Director position or similar
  • Experience in overseeing creative team, directing artists
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast- paced environment
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally
  • Ability to work in fully remote environment
  • Experience providing direction on the visual and content experience
