Volunteer Assistant News Image Editor

The nonprofit news organization WhoWhatWhy is looking for a volunteer Assistant Editorial Image Editor. You will be responsible for sourcing photos, illustrations, charts and videos to assigned stories. Required changes to images will need to be made using advanced Photoshop techniques.

A nonprofit that accepts no advertising, WhoWhatWhy is staffed largely with skilled volunteers dedicated to elevating public awareness and fostering a more vigorous democracy.  

Expectations

You will work remotely and on your own schedule, though we require a minimum commitment of 5-8 hours a week.  Because our staff is spread throughout the world, we communicate mostly through email.  All staff are required to respond to emails on a daily basis.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience working with Photoshop, Google Docs and Creative Commons
  • The ability to work in a virtual team environment
  • Flexible, adaptive, and able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Some awareness of copyright issues
  • Ability to work independently
  • A creative mindset

  • Create or adapt images from sources in Creative Commons and the public domain
  • Curate photos, illustrations, charts, videos and other art for all stories
  • Write corresponding captions and ensure proper attribution
