Responsibilities:
As an HR Business Partner, you will play a critical role in fostering a collaborative and mission-driven culture that supports our team of investigative journalists and storytellers. Your responsibilities will include:
- Serving as the primary HR contact for departmental leaders and managers.
- Understanding department-specific needs and aligning HR strategies accordingly.
- Supporting talent acquisition and workforce planning efforts.
- Collaborating with HR managers and other HR business partners to ensure consistency across departments.
- Monitoring and reporting on HR metrics related to the department.
- Organizing and facilitating meetings to improve team cohesion and communication.
- Working cross-functionally with project managers and administrators, holding regular check-ins.
- Assisting in planning, developing, writing, and maintaining procedural documents, instructions, and guides for new or modified HR processes.
Qualifications:

- Exceptional communication skills, whether writing memos, presenting to groups, or preparing visual analyses.
- Proven time management and organizational skills.

- Excellent interpersonal skills, initiative, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Comfort working in a startup-phase nonprofit organization.
- A team player mindset with the ability to multitask and work independently.
- A commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
- Ability to project and uphold the organization's brand, values, and vision in HR policies and processes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3+ years of HR experience (volunteer or professional).
- A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management or a related field.
- Relevant experience in Donor Development is a plus but not required.
- Advanced degrees or HR certifications are welcomed but not mandatory.
Note: While 3+ years of HR experience is preferred, we encourage all candidates with a strong passion for HR and alignment with our mission to apply. A commitment to learning and adapting is just as important as formal experience.

Expectations:
We ask all team members to commit to a minimum of 10 hours per week and maintain high responsiveness through Slack, email, and conference calls. Additionally, we request a minimum commitment of 12 months from our volunteers to ensure continuity and meaningful contributions to our mission.
Attendance at our bi-weekly department meetings on Tuesdays at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time is mandatory.
