Technical Writer

Company Overview

The nonprofit news organization WhoWhatWhy is looking for a volunteer technical writer to join our team. You are a skilled, empathetic, and creative writer who can research and explain complex concepts simply. You are driven to problem solve and you care deeply about helping others. If you fit the following description, please send us your resume and a customized cover letter.

Who We Are

We are a remarkable news organization and community that is making a difference, setting a new standard, and innovating on every front. A nonprofit that accepts no advertising, WhoWhatWhy is staffed largely with skilled volunteers dedicated to elevating public awareness and fostering a more vigorous democracy.

You will work remotely and on your own schedule, though we require a minimum commitment of 5-8 hours a week.  Because our staff is spread throughout the world, we communicate mostly through email.  All staff are required to respond to emails on a daily basis.   Because it usually takes two to four weeks before volunteers become fully functional and require less supervision, we prefer candidates who can commit a minimum of three months to our organization

  • Write and maintain manuals that clearly and concisely outline the responsibilities and thought process behind functions
  • Communicate regularly with all department heads to learn about their training requirements

  • Experience as a technical writer and with preparing instructional manuals preferred
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
