About Us:
WhoWhatWhy is seeking a passionate, high-energy individual who is excited about creating and implementing HR programs, structures, and processes. As a startup, we are looking for people who would bring structure and scale to the complex growth challenges of a nonprofit organization by rolling up their sleeves to get stuff done! In addition to doing groundbreaking work, this role will be pivotal in establishing a culture of openness, positive communication, and continuous learning.
Our organization is a nonprofit that is not funded by a zillionaire. We do not accept corporate ads. As such, we are only currently able to pay a small core team, as well as experienced professional freelancers, relying primarily on skilled volunteers to fill out our growing organizational infrastructure.
Age does not matter. We have among us young students, vibrant retirees, and everything in between, from all walks of life.

Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary HR contact for departmental leaders and managers.
- Understand department-specific needs and align HR strategies accordingly.
- Support talent acquisition and workforce planning efforts.
- Collaborate with HR managers and HR business partners to ensure consistency.
- Monitor and report on HR metrics related to the department.
- Work cross-functionally with project managers and administrators, holding regular meetings.
- Assist in planning, developing, writing, and maintaining procedural documents, instructions, and guides for new or modified HR processes.
- Organize and run a leadership meeting with the leaders from the Editorial department.
- Partner with Editorial department leaders to develop the talent strategy needed to support our tremendous growth and build a collaborative work environment.
Qualifications:
- Ability to quickly build relationships with stakeholders and colleagues.
- Effective communicator, whether writing memos, presenting to groups, or preparing visual analyses for senior leaders and colleagues.
- Exceptional time management skills.
- Self-starter who enjoys identifying problems, researching options, and recommending solutions.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to take initiative, and work with little supervision.
- Highly responsive and service-oriented approach with strong organizational and follow-up skills.
- Team player with the ability to multitask and work independently.
- Comfortable working in a startup phase non-profit organization.
- Enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives.
- Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail.
- Must be organized and exhibit problem-solving skills.
- Ability to grasp and project the organization's brand, values, and vision in HR policies and processes.
- 3+ years of HR experience.
- Knowledge of HR processes.
- Bachelor’s degree in HR or HR certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant experience in an Editorial department is strongly preferred, but not required.
- Master’s degree is a plus, though not required.
- 5+ years of HR experience.

Expectations:
As a member of our team, you will collaborate closely with leaders and managers within the Editorial Department. We ask all team members to commit to a minimum of 10 hours per week and to maintain high responsiveness through Slack, email, and conference calls. Additionally, we request a minimum commitment of 12 months from our volunteers to ensure continuity and meaningful contributions to our mission.
