The nonprofit news organization WhoWhatWhy is looking for a volunteer Legal Assistant. You will be responsible for supporting the lawyers who review our investigative reporting and writing, drafting legal documents and conducting legal research. You must be organized, efficient and mature. This position is ideal for third year law students who intimately understands the inner workings of law firms, or a legal associate who already understands how to coordinate and manage lawyers.
Who We Are
We are a remarkable news organization and community that is making a difference, setting a new standard, and innovating on every front. A nonprofit that accepts no advertising, WhoWhatWhy is staffed largely with skilled volunteers dedicated to elevating public awareness and fostering a more vigorous democracy.
You will work remotely and on your own schedule, though we require a minimum commitment of 10 hours a week. Because our staff is spread throughout the world, we communicate mostly through email. All staff are required to respond to emails on a daily basis.
Please send us a resume and carefully reasoned, customized cover letter that outlines your experience and skillset, and shows that you have studied what we do at WhoWhatWhy. Our mission must resonate deeply with you. We will not review applications that appear to be mass submissions. You must confirm your understanding that this is a volunteer position.
In your cover letter, at the top, write "Mencken."
