Social Media Manager

The nonprofit news organization WhoWhatWhy is looking for a volunteer Internet connoisseur to serve as social media manager. You will strategize how we tell our story in the social sphere. Non-corporate and non-partisan and commercial-free, we are powered entirely by public support and the passionate involvement of people who believe in our mission.

Who We Are

We are a remarkable news organization and community that is making a difference, setting a new standard, and innovating on every front. A nonprofit that accepts no advertising, WhoWhatWhy is staffed largely with skilled volunteers dedicated to elevating public awareness and fostering a more vigorous democracy.

Expectations

You will work remotely and on your own schedule, though we require a minimum commitment of 5-8 hours a week.  Because our staff is spread throughout the world, we communicate mostly through email.  All staff are required to respond to emails on a daily basis.  Because it usually takes two to four weeks before volunteers become fully functional and require less supervision, we prefer candidates who can commit a minimum of three months to this project.

Requirements

  • Excellent writing skills and control over voice and tone
  • Familiarity with social media sites and apps
  • A creative, detail-oriented mindset
  • The ability to communicate complex points in simple, understandable ways.

Responsibilities

  • Act as WhoWhatWhy's voice through our digital channels
  • Manage the day-to-day operational aspects of our social media presence
  • Schedule and publish all content to social media channels accurately
  • Establish and maintain regular reporting of social engagement and KPIs
  • Stay current with best practices and industry standards
