Who We Are
WhoWhatWhy is a nonprofit investigative news organization producing deep-dive journalism on the most pressing issues of our time. We’re powered by skilled volunteers and a small core staff — from students to seasoned pros — who believe in ethical, independent journalism free from corporate or political influence.
About the Role
As a member of our Social Media Strategy Team, you’ll:
- Research and report on best practices across major platforms
- Identify growth opportunities based on what’s working (or not) for us and others
- Collaborate with content and branding teams to tailor platform-specific plans
- Suggest posting strategies, audience engagement ideas, and testable experiments
- Help set performance goals and metrics for ongoing improvement
What We’re Looking For
- Familiarity with social media strategy and user engagement best practices
- Strong interest in audience-building, storytelling, and experimentation
- Analytical and curious — you’re always asking why did that work?
- Good communication and collaboration skills
- Bonus: Experience in digital strategy, nonprofit comms, or community building
What You’ll Gain
- Real-world experience shaping social strategy in a mission-driven newsroom
- A collaborative team of creatives, analysts, and communicators
- Opportunities to test bold ideas and track their impact
- Flexible, remote schedule that works with your availability
Commitment
We ask for a commitment of 5–7 hours per week and a minimum of 6 months. Includes strategy huddles, async collaboration, and periodic project reviews.
