Social Media Intern

Are you an college student or recent graduate with a great understanding of social media platforms and interest in helping organizations engage with wider audiences? If so, the up-and-coming, nonprofit news organization WhoWhatWhy may have the ideal opportunity for you to grow professionally, contribute to the greater good and have fun.

News sites compete daily for reach and space in the social media world, and we're looking to grow our capacity to engage readers on platforms like Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. We need social media savvy people to strategize around, manage and expand our influence through carefully executed, engaging campaigns.

This position is part-time and pro bono, but down the road, as we grow, we can offer possibilities of compensation.

WhoWhatWhy is changing public awareness. We are a credible solution to the raging debate over whether news is “fake” or not,” with agenda-free research and bracingly fresh analysis. Non-corporate, non-partisan and commercial-free, we are powered entirely by public support and the passionate involvement of people who believe in our mission. Our social media endeavors to be an extension of our mission while reaching as many people as possible.

  • Manage and grow WhoWhatWhy’s social media presence on all relevant platforms 
  • Track and manage our social performance 
  • Use a good understanding of WhoWhatWhy’s coverage and mission to influence how we communicate with potential readers 


  • Become knowledgeable about journalism and social media
